Curie Elementary Joint Use Park

Curie Elementary School has been approved for funding for a field upgrade through San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). This has been a long time coming and will help prevent the current skinned knees and elbows occurring on the existing DG (Decomposed Granite) field. The current plan is to have a Joint Use Field. San Diego Parks and Recreation Department and SDUSD came together to create a plan that addresses concerns expressed at previous meetings of the Standley Recreation Council concerning safety, hours of use, parking and other issues. The park design includes a grassy area, track, trees and will provide a welcome alternative the rough DG field in place at this time.

We need to establish community support for this plan given that it was not supported by the local recreational council due to some of the above issues. We feel these issues have been addressed and now is the time to move forward to San Diego Recreation Council to gain approval and establish a time line for this project which is estimated to take 2 years to completion AFTER approval. Please support our plan to make a better school environment for the students and teachers at Curie, and an optional park/playing field for local teams on evenings and weekends.

What is the proposal

Take the current dirt/rock field and turn it into a beautiful grass park for the entire community to enjoy.
